My New 40 Year Old Book

Note: this is a re-post from 11/10. A few of you commented on it back then, including Alex, who noted that the parents were rather young (10 and 12 years old) when they had kids. Oops. What did I know? Not much less than I do now....

Robyn's New Book was released on January 31, 1973, when I was 6. It's self-illustrated, self-edited, self-published, and stapled together by self. Not to brag, but I was a better artist and stapler then than I am now. Some of the words got cut off, especially as the plot thickens (damn publisher!), but I hope you can decipher the deeper meaning.

See the palm trees and high-rises?
I grew up in Los Angeles.

"This is the Daddy who lived in the city who was 23 years old"

"This is the Mother who dose all the worke she is 22 and lived's in the city"

"This is the sister who lived in the city who was 12 yea's old"

"This is the Boy who lived in the City he is 10 year's old"

"This is the hole family who lived in the city

  2. Indeed a keeper - the memories this evokes, gosh... and to think we made it to adulthood in one piece! :) :)

    I enjoyed this, Robyn! Thanks.

  3. Your drawings really were good! Don't feel bad about the confusion with their ages. My mom tricked my brother for a long time until he finally figured out she wasn't twenty seven. Of course, I'd believe she was only sixty five now if she told me.

  4. I notice the smile on sister's face compared with the more fretful look on mother's face. What an observant 6-year old you were, Robyn!

  5. It's still really cute, Robyn. Fine illustrations. And I bet your parents were flattered you thought they were so young.

  6. Look at you go, must have sold millions of copies by now.

  7. Even at that young and tender age, you showed your writing skills. Kudos to you!

  8. There was no "Me" in the "hole family"? I'm sure there must've been - or maybe she was a famous writer and didn't want to be pictured in something so bourgeois as a family portrait. "Dahhling, I'm NOT ready for my close-up now."
    Fun post! "-)

  13. It's so unfair--you were obviously a very precocious child as well as precious and adorable! What the--!! The book is advanced for a six-year-old, and shows a loving heart for the most important things in your life. I bet your mother loved the part about how she "dose all the work"!

  15. Hi, friends. Thanks so much for your comments. I'll be making rounds to visit blogs today, and I hope everyone has a great Friday and weekend.

PS I am very lucky to have my New Book and a few other things from my childhood. I credit myself, not so much my parents, for that. I think I believe this book would be a best seller. Smiles.

  21. Okay, I'll jump on. Mommy was 10 when she had sister? This is probably legit. If they came from Alabama.

  22. So the deeper meaning is too have sex and kids very young. I will pass that info down to my kids when they are 10.

  23. Al, yeah, I couldn't even do that very basic math now! Mom was only 10. But it WAS the South (Southern Cal).

PTM, please don't tell them from whom you gained this wisdom.

    Thanks, all.
    I hope you're doing well.
