The Latest in Chocolate, Kashi Cookies

It had been a painstaking 4.25 hours since I had chocolate (in the form of chocolate cereal with a cup 'o suisse mocha), so I needed my fix this afternoon. I thus scoured the shelves of Raley's and chose healthy-ish chocolate for a change: Kashi's Chocolate Almond Butter Soft-Baked Cookies. The box is marked "New!" and "All Natural." It had to be good.

Well, it IS good. With only 7g of sugar, 5% saturated fat, and 130 calories per serving, the healthiness factor of these cookies beats most other popular snacks. Plus, they even have a touch of iron and protein. What about the taste? I've sampled 4 so far. They've all been hearty, chunky, rich, and yummy, not overly sweet. I recommend them as a much-healthier-than-usual chocolate indulgence.

I give these cookies a 9, and I'm excited to have discovered them. Let me know if you have tried or do try them.

Note: I am not being compensated by Kashi for this endorsement. These opinions are strictly my own. In my opinion, they should provide me and my followers with a year's worth of free Chocolate Almond Butter Cookies.

Have a sweet, rich, healthy day!

  1. Now you've described something I'd really like to try. Dark chocolate, almond flavour and only 5% saturated fat. They don't sound very crunchy though.

  2. Even the name Kashi Cookies tempted me just because of how unique it sounded and that I'd never heard of the guys before. They sound absolutely superb too to me Robyn, and the fact that you've given them a nine gives me a lot of hope. I bet that they don't do them over here though which I'm gutted at, I think you're right about the year's free supply thing!

  3. hmm interesting. Mind you when I have tried Kashi products in the past they have always tasted like cardboard.

  4. Alright, you convinced me to try these. I quit snacking a few years ago and I miss my chocolate. I rarely eat it anymore. This sounds like it would be a healthy option. Thanks!

  5. I don't eat Kashi. Once GMOs were found in their organics I lost all respect for them.
I like to snack on dark chocolate chips.

  6. Yumm!!! Those look really good... and I am with you. Kashi should compensate you for this post.

  7. GB, they're more soft than crunchy. Sorry. Bananas aren't too crunchy either, though.

YW, hmm, not sure who widespread Kashi is. You probably have plenty of healthy-ish choco options over there.

David, yeah, I understand. I'm warming up to it. It hasn't yet tasted like cardboard to me. But I can't say for sure. I have yet to eat cardboard.

Elsie, I envy those who can abstain from snacking. Let me know if you do try them. Thanks.

Ruth, oh no, I didn't know this. I'll have to do my homework better (or at all) next time.

    Thanks, all.

  9. Some of their stuff is supposed to be fine, but I just wonder. I just went to Kashi's website and they are getting a lot of their products non-GMO verified so maybe they learned their lesson. That's a good thing!

  10. If only I could sample them for you. I am eliminating all sugar from my diet for a few weeks. I will share my celery sticks with anyone that wants some.

  11. Yummm-- I like Kashi products and can easily convince myself that they're healthy and therefore I should eat double. ;) Thanks for the recommendation!

  12. Oooooh! And they're soft-baked. I may have to try these.

  13. Hmm, they sound delicious, but I'm not generally a fan of Kashi products. They always seem to be a little tasteless. Maybe word has gotten out and they're trying to remake their brand.

  15. I think they should give you two years worth.

  16. I haven't tried these. Been a long time since I bought boxed cookies.

Kashi offers coupons for these kinds of things as well. I don't know if they have any on their FB page or not, but sometimes that's a great way to get a good deal.

    Happy Eating :-)

  17. Good and healthy? Almost sounds like an oxymoron. I'd give 'em a go!

  18. Pat, I'm saying! Smiles.

Ruth, thanks for checking that out. I'll look into it too. I hope they got their act together now.

Cheryl, that's a sweet and rather tasteless offer (i.e., celery has little taste). I need to consider the vegetable thing more often (more often than almost never, that is).

Adam, I'm eating one now. Yum.

Julie, me too. See my comment to Stephen below.

MJ, yes, they're nice and soft.

Johanna, I hope they're improving. I rarely shop Kashi, but these cookies aren't bland.

    Nutschell, yes, especially if you're a choco-fan.

Thanks, Alex. Please put in a good word for me.

HappyWhisk, thanks for the tip. Coupons can help a lot. I should look into that.

MsA, it is almost an oxymoron. I guess I can't honestly call them healthy, but they are healthier than most snacks - which aren't healthy at all. =)

    Be well, everyone.

Stephen, great question. I kinda neglected to mention that one serving = only 1 cookie. I was embarrassed to admit (to myself, much less the blog world) that I had 4 servings within a short period of time.

  19. There is NO such thing as a bad cookie!
With the possible exception of that disastrous new promotion from Famous Amos: "Grandpa's Toe."

  20. I cannot do chocolate cookies unless they are Thin Mints or Oreos. Don't know what it is, but if a whole cookie is chocolate I get turned off. The healthiest cookie I do is a vegan oatmeal chocolate chip cookie.

  21. Hi Robyn! Always glad to hear of new chocolate products . . . mmmm, chocolate.

  22. Yes! Finally, the cookie I can consume after a hard workout! It's Kashi, so it has to be healthy, right?

(Don't take this away from me. It's the only way I can justify my junk food intake)

  23. Al, that's just gross, especially with grandpa dead - unless it's blackberry jam you're referring to. That might just work.

Melly, do you know that there are mint flavored Oreos? That might suit your needs.

Debra, thanks for coming aboard. Always glad to meet another chocofan.

BnB, yes, very healthy. I won't take that away from myself either.

    Have a sweet one, all.
